POST Certification and Skills Test Out Schedule
Written POST Certification Exam
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, all OFFICE EXAMS are cancelled until further notice. Please contact POST if you need to schedule an exam.
The written POST Certification Exam is administered on the third Wednesday of every month. This is for individuals who have already passed the skills tests, are scheduled to do the skills test on another day, or who are retaking the exam.
- Location
The written POST Certification Exam is held at the Ralph L. Carr Colorado Judicial Center, 1300 Broadway, Denver, CO 80203.
- Admission Requirements
- Photo Identification: driver's license or government-issued ID.
- Previously received money order, certified check, or agency check of $150 payable to Colorado POST. Cash or personal checks are not accepted. Please see online payments page for more details.
One-Day Test Out: Arrest Control, Driving and Firearms Skills & Written Exam Combination
The one-day test out includes the three skills tests (Arrest Control, Driving and Firearms) and the written POST Certification test. The test out is available for Provisional (out-of-state) and Renewal applicants only. Applicants must order the Provisional or Renewal packet to begin the Provisional or Renewal process. Packets must be received prior to registration. Please review the information on the Provisional or Renewal pages.
- Location
The test out is held at the Adams County Sheriff's Office FLATROCK facility at 23600 E 128th Ave, Commerce City, CO 80022 or Mesa County CLETC at 3340 Whitewater Hill Road, Whitewater, CO 81527.
- Admission Requirements
- To register for the test out, please call 720-508-6724.
- Payment for test out must be received by POST one week prior to the test out. The total cost is $525.00 ($125.00 per skills test, $150.00 for the written exam). There are three attempts available for each skill and the written exam. You must pay the fee again to retake any of the tests.
- Please see online payments page for payment. Certified checks, agency checks, or money orders can also be used to pay. Cash or personal checks will NOT be accepted.
Anyone who fails any of the skills in three attempts must attend the full academy curriculum for that skill (minimum 72 hrs for firearms, 44 hrs for driving, and 62 hrs for arrest control program). Anyone who fails the written test in three attempts must attend the entire academic portion of a POST academy (378 hours).
Being allowed to attend only a portion of an academy is not guaranteed. It is at the discretion of each academy director. You must contact POST Compliance Coordinator when you have scheduled your academy class, as confirmation between yourself, the academy director and POST Compliance Coordinator must be received prior to starting the full academy skills program.
Exam fees are not refundable, however, if you cannot attend the date for which you registered, the money will be credited for your next exam date. Please see the current exam schedule below.
POST accepts only nationally recognized disciplines for arrest control, and proficiency in tactics must be shown during the arrest control proficiency testing.

Directions to Adams County Academy
West: Take I-70 to I-76 and get off on Bromley Lane (exit 22). Turn right, and take the second right onto Picadilly Road. Turn left on 128th Ave. Continue on 128th Ave after it turns to dirt at Picadilly Road. Continue past Gun Club, and turn into the academy entrance on your right, about 1.5 miles east of Picadilly Road.
South: Take Pena Road as if you are going to DIA airport and take the Tower Road exit just before you reach airport property. Turn left (north) on Tower Road. In approximately 6 miles Tower ends and turns right onto 128th Ave.128th turns to dirt at Picadilly Road. Continue past Gun Club Road and turn into the academy entrance on your right.
E470 Toll Road: Take the toll road from the south (Parker) and get off at 120th Ave.Turn right (east) on 120th, then left (north) onto Tower Rd. which ends and turns right onto 128th Ave.128th turns to dirt at Picadilly Road. Continue past Gun Club Road and turn into the academy entrance on your right.
If you use GPS or Google maps, your directions may tell you to go down Gun Club Road. Gun Club Road is a dead end and does not go through. The only entrance to the academy is from the North off of 128th Ave.
Lodging
If you wish to stay overnight, Holiday Inn Express is off of I-76, or there are several hotels off of Tower Road near Denver International Airport.
